Dear Prospective Newspaper-Journalism I Student:

The Spartan Shield newspaper has a legacy dating back to 1969. In recent years, a zillion students wanted to be part of the action...which is uber-cool.

Likewise, The Spartan Shield aims to be a collection of diverse and dynamic students.

Unfortunately, Newspaper-Journalism I class is NOT open to all students.

Newspaper-Journalism I is only open to students who are self-motivated “team players” and who have received “A” or “B” grades within their English classes.

1) I confirm I have at least a “B” grade for my last semester

English grade. _________ (student’s initials)

2) I read the online Newspaper-Journalism I course syllabus at https://barry24901.tripod.com/id2.html   __________ (student’s initials)

3) ____________________ (teacher’s name) believes this course would be a good placement for me. ___________ (teacher’s initials)

4) I personally met with Mr. Rich on ________ (date) to discuss my possibly becoming a Spartan Shield journalist.  __________ (student’s initials)

5) ***[Now give this form to Mr. Rich but return to get it back!]***

6) Mr. Rich performs "background check" by meeting with teachers, counselors, principals.

Barry Rich’s authorization signature:_______________________

7) ***[Now be sure to give this completed form to an English teacher working the English table during ARENA Scheduling.]***
